A Hands on History event will feature exhibitions and demonstrations about the industrial past of the Wye Valley during the English Civil War.

Sir William Pennyman’s Regiment of Foote from the English Civil War Society will be providing a living history military encampment set April 4,1643. Their primary purpose iwas to guard and protect the vital Wye Valley furnaces the river crossings and the docks at Brockweir. Weaponry with muskets, sword, pike and cannon will be demonstrated, along with food and metalworking of the time.
Also featured will be John Deighton, barber surgeon, who can perform a goodly number of battlefield surgery procedures and will discuss the art of diagnosing illness and offer such cures from snail-water to salves. Together with an ochre artist and local history societies there will be plenty to fascinate the industrial history enthusiasts as well as family events to keep the kids entertained.

Walks will be organised and it will also be an opportunity to view the new Destination Wye Valley Exhibition, shop and conference facilities in the new railway carriages.
