"Michael Pawlyn, director of Exploration Architecture, gives an insight into the emerging discipline known as ‘Biomimcry’. A leading figure in the field of sustainable architecture, Michael will bring to life the application of the amazing adaptations that plants and animals have made, with the benefit of 3.5 billion years of evolution, to design.

Biomimcry, represents an under-explored territory that can yield imaginative and beautiful architecture. It can provide solutions to complex issues such as water shortages and waste management. To illustrate this new approach to design, Michael will introduce The Plastiki, a one-of-a-kind 60-foot catamaran created almost exclusively out of 12,500 reclaimed plastic bottles and sr-PET. He will also give exclusive insight into a new project - based on a Namibian desert beetle that has evolved a way to create its own water - that proposes a radical solution to creating energy, food and water in some of the most arid parts of the world."
