Brooks Before Midnight … at the M Bar
Starring Sylvia Brooks … and her fabulous sextet.
Starting on October 3rd, Sylvia Brooks will make her debut performance at the M Bar for a much anticipated series of late night performances. As a rave review of her recent appearance at Catalina Bar & Grill states … “Ms. Brooks’ dynamic performance backed by her immensely talented musicians brings something innovative and alive to the stage…” “Ms. Brooks is certainly here and that is definitely a great thing!”
Tom Garvin, who has written and arranged for Diana Krall, Anita Baker, Sarah Vaughn and Carmen McRae, has worked closely with Ms. Brooks to masterfully craft an outstanding selection of songs from The Great American Songbook, guaranteeing an evening of uniquely rich and original music. This is pop-jazz at it's finest.
Walls draped with red satin, glistening chandeliers, and a delectable martini menu … this is the late night place to be. If you love the glamorous stars of the 1940’s and 50’s do not miss these evenings with Ms. Brooks…. You will want to come back again and again.

October 3, 17, 31, November 7 and December 5. All shows are on Friday nights and start at 10:00 PM. There is a special post Thanksgiving Day early dinner show on Nov. 28th at 8:00 PM. Please call M Bar for dinner reservations on Nov. 28th at 323.856.0036.

Wow! Ms Brooks and her six piece band sizzles! I had never been to M Bar before but if they keep booking talent like this I'll be back. Brooks voice and performance is like a hip new interpretation of the golden era of great torch singers. Her sultry low register and great musical arrangements lights a fire that just keeps on burning. She just happens to be gorgeous so it wasn't hard to look at her for the hour plus show. The band was also incredible. Six pieces sounded like twelve and the piano player was outrageous. Also some of the best sax and trumpet solos I've ever heard! The M Bar ambiance is also very cool. Deep velvet booths, chandeliers, candle light and red satin drapes really set the mood. It's very hard to find a late night spot in LA for a cocktail and some chic and sophisticated live music. Brooks has more shows coming up a M Bar and I recommend that if you're looking for great show you should check her out. I know that I'm going back.

Last night we went to the M Bar and had the surprise of the year: Sylvia Brooks and her Fabulous Sextette! What great music these people make! Ms Brooks is so beautiful, but her singing! She sang some of my favorite songs, Lush Life, Feelin' Good, and The Man That Got Away, and some very hot, exciting latin pieces we had never heard before. This group made music that was just wonderful. We had a great time and are going back with friends. (My husband hasn't been able to stop talking about it!)
