Ever since the 1930s, comic books have been a staple of American popular culture. Originally created as a vehicle for reprinting and selling collections of newspaper strips, the comic book has now become a well-respected, critically-acclaimed venue for literary and artistic expression. Come enjoy this refreshing and colorful juried show by aspiring comic illustrators from the southeast. In addition, a local scholar, Dr. Michael Pemberton, will provide a lecture on the rich (and occasionally bizarre) history of this medium and its influence on American culture and values.
