According to the UN refugee agency, as many as 250,000 Congolese have been uprooted from their homes since August 2008. There has been an increasing number of killings and other human rights violations - women and children have been hit the hardest.

The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) helps Congolese refugees in Kenya and Uganda by providing them with legal and psychosocial assistance. For the direst cases, HIAS works to resettle them in the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

HIAS Young Leaders is a dedicated community of young professionals and graduate students joined together to help advance HIAS’ mission of rescue, reunion, and resettlement of Jewish and other migrants.

Please join HIAS Young Leaders on Thursday, November 20th from 6:30-8:30pm at Busboys and Poets (2021 14th Street NW) for an evening in support of Congolese refugees. The event will feature a full bar, live music, great raffle prizes, and speakers from Friends of the Congo, Enough Project, and HIAS-Kenya. Visit www.hias.org/feedtheneed and purchase your tickets today!

Tickets are $36 in advance and $45 at the door. Each ticket includes one free drink and hors d’oeuvres! All proceeds will go towards HIAS programs that serve Congolese refugees.
