Benic?ssim
Benic?ssim, Valencia

The Benic?ssim International Festival is already very close to its XI edition. To think about August and the town of Benicassim has become thinking about FIB. This synaesthesia is formed by the addition of summer+beach+live music+9 days of free camping and has established itself throughout the years till it has become an unavoidable date in the Spanish summer for all of those keen on listening to, dancing to and enjoying pop, rock and electronica.

As a matter of fact, FIB is one of the pioneers when speaking about festivals in Spain and has achieved recognition from both national and international media as one of the most important festivals to be held in Spain and one of the outstanding ones in Europe thanks to a consistent billing and its sights set on both independent music and culture.

Many artists have stepped on our main stage (the Green Stage), such as Radiohead, Björk, The Cure, Massive Attack, Suede, Blur, Primal Scream, Pulp, Sonic Youth, James, The Chemical Brothers or The Jesus & Mary Chain. But this space is joined by none other than five more stages (Electronic, Fiberfib.com, FIB Club, Chill Out and Pista Pop) in which many renowned artists have performed. We are speaking of Pizzicato Five, Dominique A, Laika, Broadcast, Tortoise, Arab Strap, The Delgados, Lambchop, Saint Etienne, Moloko, Low, Suicide, Calexico, Daniel Johnston, Perry Blake or Dj Shadow, to name but a few. Besides, theme nights are held both in the FIB club and in the chill out. They are devoted to showcasing A list electronic labels: Mute, Ersatz Audio, International Deejay Gigolo, Karaoke Kalk, Monika Enterprise, Morr Music or Kompakt. whereas the Pista Pop is the ideal spot to dance to the best pop dj´s till dawn. Its turntables have witnessed the likes of Pulp´s Jarvis Cocker and Steve Mackey to Death in Vegas´Richard Fearless to Elastica´s Justin Frischmann.

Alongside live music shows, many non-musical activities progressively joined the billing rounding up FIB´s cultural bet in Benic?ssim both in the days the concerts take place as well as in the days prior and after the live shows. It is all about the short film festival , the FIB-Actúa theatre showcase, FIB Art artistic route, Dance, FIB fashion catwalk and summer courses organized in collaboration with Castellón´s Jaume I University. In all of them, both renowned names and up and coming artists are welcome.

One of FIB´s greatest assets is descovering new talents in the field on independent culture. That is why "Demo Project " was created in 2001, a contest for up and coming bands which prize, amongst others, is performing live at the Festival, and which is also run in Germany, Italy and France.

We could perhaps say all of the above is everything FIB is about, but it is actually much more. We could talk about what it is, the artists performing, its activities, but all of the latter could never equal the stories that someone who has experienced it might tell you about it. From their words come both our reward and our challenge. Nevertheless, we invite you to start discovering it in this website. We hope to see you in Benic?ssim next July.
