GeekUp Sheffield May 7, 2008

This month is the launch event for Sheffield GeekUp, a regular social that takes place on the first Wednesday of every month. The inaugural lineup includes the following highlights (but expect more!):

Huddle facilitated by Marc Johnson: "Laying your legacy to REST"
- An extended session looking at some of the technical issues of moving from a legacy system to a modern maintainable architecture. This hands-on lab will last longer than the presentations and you're encouraged to get directly involved in tackling a gritty real-world problem. Arrive early to avoid missing out.

Lightning Talks include:
- Lorna Mitchell: "Deploying Web Projects with Subversion"
- Ian Ibbotson: "OKCon and the Open Knowledge Foundation"
- Tamlyn Rhodes: "Thinking About Usability"

What is GeekUp? GeekUp is a community of web designers, web developers, and other tech-minded folk from the North. Our socials take place once a month in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Preston and Sheffield, and are always a lively place to share ideas and spread a little knowledge.

Who can attend GeekUp? Anybody involved in technology is more than welcome to attend a GeekUp. The monthly events are free, we just ask that you buy your own beer.
