High-quality inclusive education for students with all types of disabilities is happening throughout western Pennsylvania. Right in our own backyard are numerousexamples of visionary school districts and innovative IEP teams who sustain meaningful inclusive education for students from kindergarten through graduation. Come and find out what goes on behind the scenes to make it happen and learn strategies on effectively collaborating with the IEP team to plan for supports within the inclusive classroom and problem-solving inclusion support issues as they occur.
Attendees will also hear about the 2008 "Exemplary Inclusive Practice" awardees recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education, Inclusive Practices Project,which acknowledges school districts for best inclusive practices. Participants will receive information about the 2009application processand hear an overview of the new Supplementary Aids and Services Consideration Toolkit, which guides teams through steps that lead to the identification of services and supports to enable a student with a disability to learn and succeed within general education classroom settings.

About the Speaker - Tina Calabro, M.Ed., M.F. A.
Tina Calabro is an educator and disability writer/advocate. Her column about disability issues, Breaking Down Barriers, appears in the Health and Science section of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh and Chatham University and is the 2008 recipient of UCP of Pittsburghs Community Hero award. Her eighth grade son, Mark Steidl, has a disabilityand enjoys a high-quality, inclusive education in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
Act 48 and social work credits offered for an additional processing fee of $5.00 each, payable at the event. Arrive by 6:00 p.m. for networking opportunities and to receive full 3 hours Act 48/social work credit. This program is offered for 3 hours of social work continuing education through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburghs School of Social Work, aCouncil on Social Work Education-accredited school and, therefore, a PA pre-approved provider of social work continuing education.
