Jon Udell joined Microsoft as a writer, interviewer, speaker, and experimental software developer in 2007. His portfolio includes an interview series, Perspectives, which explores how Microsoft works with partners -- universities, governments, NGOs -- to develop new and socially impactful uses of its technologies.

Jon's current project at http://elmcity.cloudapp.net is a system for creating community information hubs. It is built on Microsoft's Azure platform, and woven together using a rich ecosystem of Internet standards (iCalendar, RSS, Atom) and services (Delicious, FriendFeed).

Generally, curation and syndication of calendars is his immediate focus, but Jon is also trying to teach principles, practices, and patterns that will help people become better citizens of the Internet and of the planet.

The Guardian's TechTalk series is opening up to guests for the first time with this session. Most TechTalk discussions start with a 30-40 minute presentation and are then followed by a Q&A.

We are making 50 seats available on a first-come, first-served basis to anyone who is interested. Please claim a seat only if you are committed to coming.

When you arrive, come to the Guardian reception who will then direct you to the Scott Room on the 1st floor.

Many people will then head down to the Rotunda bar for drinks on the canal waterfront after the talk at about 6. The Rotunda is also in Kings Place.
