HOW CONSERVATIVES TURNED LIBERALISM INTO A TAX-RAISING, LATTE-DRINKING, LEFT-WING FREAK SHOW

Modern linguistics is a primary front in the political fight, says Nunberg, and the Right is winning the battles. Through manipulative use of language (he identifies values and no child left behind as neocon faves) conservatives have convinced many voters that issues they have traditionally cared about don't matter.

haha this looks interesting... but one must wonder: HOW DID CONSERVATIVES TURN THIS INTO A WINE-SWILLING, CHEESE-MASTICATING, LECTURE-LOVING FREAK SHOW?

But I like lattes!

And kzlim, LOL.

Manipulative use of language? There is no need for your opponents to do it to you when you do it to yourself: "Wine and cheese reception"? Ahem. I kind of hoped this was a clever bit of humor for this post (as it is on the original commonwealth post http://www.commonwealthclub.org/featured/#nunberg ) but seeing how several other events listed there also have "Wine and cheese" (or better: "Wine and Hors d'oeuvres" - yum!) I think the irony may be unintentional.

...and the ALL CAPS hurts.
