SAN FRANCISCO — Up-and-coming folk-rock singer-songwriter Jim Hanft with singer Samantha Yonack will make a tour stop Tuesday, May 22, at San Francisco’s The Hotel Utah Saloon, 500 Fourth St., to perform songs from his new album, WEDDINGS OR FUNERALS. Tickets for the 21-and-over show are $10; doors open at 7 p.m. and Hanft plays at 8.
Philadelphia-born Hanft is gaining recognition for crafting songs of uncommon honesty, telling stories of life’s quiet moments and turning points, relations and temptations, loves and losses. Accompanied by his musical partner Yonack’s pure harmonies, he creates a modern musical landscape rooted in the raw, yet nuanced strength of his words and performance.
Produced by Lasse Mårtén (Lykke Li, Shout Out Louds, Peter, Bjorn & John), WEDDINGS OR FUNERALS initially was released in Sweden by Veranda Independent Records. The label gave the album its American debut April 10. Initial plaudits include a rave from Gratefulweb.com writer John Mosley, who calls Hanft’s new work “a delicate, lyrical album” and “a warm, affecting collection of musical storytelling.”
Hanft and Yonack are touring both coasts this spring in support of WEDDINGS OR FUNERALS. Catch video vignettes of the duo’s stateside and Swedish experiences at: jimhanft.com/category/wesingalong.
