DAN CURTIN

Dan Curtin’s fascination with music was sparked when he discovered East Coast hip-hop while still in primary school. Hip-hop, along with new wave, electro, and other sonic innovations of the Eighties began to loom large in his life, and it was only a matter of time before Curtin began experimenting with music creation himself. When he finally heard the futuristic sounds of house and techno, everything changed and music production became Curtin's primary focus from his home studio in Cleveland, OH. Cleveland, a city not known as a hub for electronic music creation, was initially isolating. However, Curtin was able to observe the more prominent scenes of other cities like Detroit and Chicago without becoming part of or identified with any one of them. He began designing a new sound in techno and house music.

Curtin's first few records were released on Detroit's 33 RPM Records and Belgium's Buzz Records. Shortly thereafter, he started his own label, Metamorphic Recordings. Dancers and listeners alike began to take notice of his innovative sound signature, and before long Dan Curtin found himself being hailed as a key player in techno and house music. With his profile on the rise, he eventually caught the attention of labels diverse as New York's legendary Strictly Rhythm, and England's Peacefrog Records.

The early part of the new century gave Curtin the opportunity to focus more on the house music side of the business with many productions under his Purveyors of Fine Funk and Key of Soul monikers on labels such as Diaspora Recordings and Paper Recordings. The new century also marked Curtin’s expansion from a primarily production based career to a production and performance based career with weekly DJ bookings in most of the world’s top clubs from London to Mexico City, Berlin to Tokyo, NYC to Paris and everywhere in between. Globe-trotting to DJ gigs and running Metamorphic Recordings makes for a hectic schedule, but never too hectic to make time for the studio. Curtin continues to push boundaries with forward thinking music production as his utmost priority. Relocation in late 2003 to electronic music’s European epicenter, Berlin, has energized Curtin with the rich vitality generated by so many artists and producers working together in one city. This move has triggered a string of new releases in a more dance floor oriented direction on renowned labels Tuning Spork, Klang Elektronik, and Soma, and Leena Music.

With over 70 singles and 9 full-length albums under his belt, and his past and present accounted for, Curtin's career is in full swing and storming forward. The sole question remains: where can we expect to find Dan Curtin in the future? Keep your attention focused ahead of the current trends in music and that's where he'll be.

SETH TROXLER

Through a leaking bodily cavity resembling the pork found in Chinese restaurants, Satan shat out a crystal beaming with glowing red embers. This crystal matured into the fetus of Seth Troxler. Seth was placed on earth as a weeping fetus, the sound of inevitability. As he grew, his ancestral roots took on a magnetic channeling power, more than his feeble mind could ever consciously fathom. As a result, he became capable of creating some of the world’s finest and most intuitive dance cuts, including releases on Spectral, Wagon Repair, Crosstown Rebels, Items and Things, FXHE, Esperanza, Beretta Grey and Dumb Unit, and Circus Company. He has played many outstanding international gigs, most notably at Fabric, Panorama Bar, The Rex, Robert Johnson, and regularly at Weekend club and Watergate in Berlin, where he now resides. He is also a key conceptual force behind America’s “Tesh Club” turned Visionquest parties with partners in crime Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtiss. His musical influences include the chirping of crickets, the whirring of space ships, and the sweet sounds of whistling voodoo magic. However, Seth draws the majority of his inspiration from Robert Downey Jr., and the idea of releasing the shackles that bind Downey so he can finally do heroin in peace.

dCOY

Tim Coy is a nice, understated fellow who in his spare time enjoys playing good music for people who like to dance. About a year ago he helped bring minimal techno and tech-house to the East Bay by establishing the Black Market Techno monthly with fellow DJs and Midwest transplants Razvan, Farzana, and IXD. Not long after, Tim co-founded Killswitch, a weekly techno happy hour in the Lower Haight, with DJ Javaight (David Javate) of Staple. Between Black Market and Killswitch, Tim has a hand in featuring many, many talented local and national artists, with plenty more on the way. Being from Clevelend, Tim grew up listening to Dan Curtin and is excited to be playing alongside him at last. Expect him to rep well for the home team. Both of 'em!
