Over the past 500 years, alcohol has stimulated a flood of art and advertising, inspired the creation of tools like the corkscrew and the cocktail shaker, and fueled many vivid celebrations. Philippa Glanville, senior research fellow at the Victoria & Albert Museum, will explore the extraordinary range of images and objects inspired by the culture of drinking. Hillwood associate curator Scott Ruby will highlight the meticulous attention placed on Russian objects intended for vodka drinking, such as Fabergé’s jeweled vodka cups. A signing of Glanville’s book, to which Ruby contributed a chapter, The Art of Drinking, will follow the lecture.
