From Friday July, 27 through Sunday July, 29 the inaugural Boston Globe WGBH Summer Arts weekend will showcase Boston’s thriving arts community by bringing local and national artists to the city for a variety of free performances. Highlights of the weekend include Suzanne Vega, indie folk band The Low Anthem and family-favorite Dan Zanes & Friends. Classical trumpeter Alison Balsom, the Boston Landmark Orchestra, Sierra Hull & Highway 111, Del McCoury, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Irma Thomas, Poncho Sanchez, Soul Rebels, Anderson & Roe and Igudesman & Joo will also perform during the weekend. In addition to the free events in Copley Square, a series of performances will take place in the After Hours Festival Club during the evenings. These ticketed events will be held at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, bringing together festival artists for short-form intimate performances.
