When a middle aged man brings home a young female he met in the park and suggests that she live with them, it’s little wonder that his wife objects. Sylvia, this new object of the husband’s affections dotes on him and seems to hang on his every word. Greg even quits his job so that he can spend more time with her. Could any wife tolerate such a situation? Is it just a mid-life crisis thing that will fizzle out or will this be the new order? Friends seem unable to help and marriage councillors can see no way that this ménage à trois can work. When wife Kate suggests that her husband must choose between her and Sylvia, Greg faces a critical and heartbreaking decision.

This may sound like a new storyline from a TV soap but it is in fact a hilarious comedy by American writer A R Gurney. First played in 1995, the drama critic of the New York Daily News described it as, “One of the most involving, beautiful, funny, touching and profound plays I have ever seen”.

If you’ve ever been married, been middle aged, taken a walk in the park or kept a dog, this is a play not to be missed!

Tickets at just £6 are available from The Village Shop, Brockweir or from Angela Palmer (01291-689561) or at the door on the evening of performance.
