The Dixie Hummingbirds passed the 75 year mark and continue a tradition as one of the greatest Gospel groups of all time. A pioneering force behind the evolution of the modern gospel quartet sound, the Dixie Hummingbirds are among the longest-lived and most successful groups of their era; renowned for their imaginative arrangements, progressive harmonies and all-around versatility, they earned almost universal recognition as the greatest Southern quartet of their generation. Organized in 1977 by Emmit Powell, The Gospel Elites are an ensemble of male and female voices, each an acclaimed soloist in their own right, with a rhythm section including pianist, an organist, guitarist, bass guitarist and drummer.
