"Those Wicked Woods" by Ben Walker May 1, 2010

Mission: Comics & Art presents, "Those Wicked Woods", a solo show spotlighting the artwork of Sacramento based artist Ben Walker. Walker's work draws on iconic American Old West imagery reset in a cartoon and comic book influenced world of gun-toting bears, jackalopes, and singing cowboys.

For "Those Wicked Woods" Walker uses his Old West slant to take a playful poke at things that go bump in the night. Through images of sinister forest creatures, haints, and bizarre hybrids of natural and man-made objects, the lurking dangers of the wilderness become a reflection of our own fever dreams and fears.

Walker's artwork has recently been featured at Portland's Grass Hut gallery, LA and SF's Gallery 1988, and in a three man group show at San Francisco's Super 7 Gallery. In addition to his artistic endeavorers, Walker also started the alternative drawing studio, Pompsicle in 2006, which facilitated drawing session using clothed and costumed models.
