Winifred Godfrey: Mayan Procession January 9, 2007

'Mayan Procession,' a tribute to an endangered group of people, is a sequence of 14 life-sized canvases that places the viewer in a fixed position as a Guatemalan funerary procession passes by. Each painting shows a series of figures that represent a sampling of the different indigenous Mayan groups of Guatemala, groups who have maintained their traditions and serve as a living connection to a pre-Columbian past.
