The Upcoming News Blog

Goodness, gracious, great balls of fire!

A big shout out to our founder Leonard Lin, who is rocking the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco this week with his new Upcoming-powered application called Fireball. Plus some shiny new ways to attend or watch an event on Upcoming. Read on!

Fireball helps you find where your friends are and what they're up to. There have been services like this before but Fireball does it in style, simply tying together services you might already be using like messaging from Twitter, location sharing from Yahoo Brickhouse's FireEagle, and events and things to do from... us!

Fireball is sure to be the toast of the Big Open Y! Party @ Brickhouse. So if you're in the area, drop on by....

Meanwhile, we swear this is just a coincidence, but we just added a bit of Web-2.0-style eye candy to the site ourselves. The "I'm going" and "I'm watching" buttons on event pages are a bit spruced up. You can also use them in more places on Upcoming, like directly from a search page. Try it in this search for "music" in "New York". Just roll over the event listing with your mouse and you'll see these buttons appear off to the side.

Love it? Hate it? Let us know! We're planning even more changes to the look and feel very soon, so stay tuned...

Oh, by the way, I've been a programmer here for a year and a half, but this is my first blog post for Upcoming. I have a silly username but in real life you can call me "Neil Kandalgaonkar", which is a little less silly. I get to do the blog this time because Vince is currently plotting out exactly how many San Francisco parties he can hit tonight.

I love the new going/watching widget. Way better than the old one, and I love being able to quickly attend stuff while browsing/searching listings. Great work, guys.

I don't know when you added the drop-down menu for inputting an event's time, but seriously, THANK YOU. It's how Upcoming used to do times and it's the *right way* because typing them in by hand was a serious pain.

Also, I'm curious about how much coding on Upcoming happens on a daily basis.

Weekly basis? Monthly basis?
